Russian National Ballet

The Russian National Ballet was founded in 1989 as the Moscow Festival Ballet by two former stars of the Bolshoi Ballet, the legendary Maris Liepa and Sergei Radchenko. It was the first independent (non-goverment) ballet company to be formed in Russia and quickly gained international recognition. It was renamed the Russian National Ballet in January 1998 and is currently under the direction of Sergei and Elena Radchenko.

Kremlin Ballet

The Kremlin Ballet was created by Andrei Petrov in 1990 as The Theatre of the Kremlin Palace and was renamed The Kremlin Ballet in 1992. The company is based and performs in the theatre of the State Kremlin Palace, formerly known as the Kremlin Palace of Congresses.

Moscow City Ballet

The Moscow City Ballet is an international touring company that has appeared all over the world. Based in Moscow. the company was founded in November 1988 by Russian choreographer Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, who is the company's Artistic Director. The Chief Ballet Mistress and principal teacher is Ludmila Nerubashenko.

Moscow Classical Ballet

The Moscow Classical Ballet was founded in 1990 by its current director Elik Melikov. It is an international touring company based in Moscow and has performed all over the world.

Ballet Company of the Omsk of State Musical Theatre

The State Musical Theatre of Comedy in the city of Omsk was opened in 1947. In 1982 the theatre was moved to a new building and renamed the Omsk State Musical Theatre. Various types of theatre are performed including ballet, opera, musicals, comedies and vaudeville.

Bashkortostan State Theatre

In 1909 the city of Ufa built a community cultural centre named after S. Aksakov. In 1938 this building became the home of the Bashkortostan State Opera & Ballet Theatre. The Bashkortostan Opera Studio was opened in 1932. The Bashkortostan Ballet began its history in 1940 with the ballet Coppelia. The Bashkortostan Ballet School opened in 1955 and started to train dancers for the company. In October 1987 the theatre reopened after renovation.

Ballet Company of the Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet The

The Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre was established in 1939 as a drama theatre and in 1949 as an opera and ballet theatre. In its 70 year history the theatre has mounted more than 200 productions, of which more than 30 are in the current repertoire.

Ballet Company of the Tatar Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre

The Tatar Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre was established in 1934 by the Government of the Tatar Republic. One year earlier an opera studio was opened in the city of Kazan. A ballet company was started at the same time. In 1936 work started on the theatre's new building, which opened on 28 September 1956.

Novosibirsk Ballet

The theatre was completed in February 1944 and the first performance held on May 12, 1945. The title "Academic" was awarded on December 30, 1963. It is the largest theatre in Russia and, after renovation in 2005, its computerized stage equipment is the most technically advanced in Russia.

St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre

The company was founded by Peter Gusev in 1966. In 1969 the famous Russian choreographer Leonid Jacobson was appointed Artistic Director and the original name of the company was changed to "Choreographic Miniatures" which is the title of one of his productions. Ballet Company of the Chuvashia State Theatre

The Chuvash musical-drama theatre opened in 1960 under the directorship of Boris Markov. The first ballet performance, Giselle, was given In 1967.
